6-time European Champions, our Camogie team have truly set the standard in Europe over the last number years. 2016 was a highly successful year for the team as they were crowned champions yet again in Dresden this past October. The 2017 management team of Clare woman Gráinne Corry and Dublin’s Meadbh Bolger are working to keep the success going for the European Champions and bring more silverware to Belgium this season.
The Belgium Camogie team have been extremely successful over the years in bringing newcomers into the fold and coaching them to a level that allows them to pull on the red jersey and compete for Belgium in the tournaments. We have a large panel of players, diverse in both skill level and nationality – yet the team has been consistently successful while introducing these new players to the great game of Camogie. Like all Belgium GAA teams, Camogie has a very inclusive setup, and new players are welcome at all times to come down and give it a try.
So what is Camogie?
Camogie is a traditional Irish team sport played by around 100,000 women in Ireland and worldwide, largely among Irish communities. Camogie is organised by the Dublin-based Camogie Association or An Cumann Camógaíochta. The game is played with sticks (hurleys) and a ball (sliotar), and the aim is to outscore the opposition. A camogie player does this by striking the ball over the bar to score one point or under the bar, passed the goalie and into the goal to score 3 points.
